Nepal Police's Chaudhary sets new national record in weightlifting

Devi Chaudhary of Nepal Police has won the gold medal in the weightlifting of 53 kgs women category that was held Sunday under the ongoing seventh National Games.

She broke the previous record registered in her name to set the new record by lifting 63 kgs. The match was held late this evening in Rajbiraj, the district headquarters of Rajbiraj.

Likewise, Manoj Yadav won the gold medal in 65 kgs men’s category while Nepal Army’s Tulanath Mahato clinched the silver and Rabilal Chaudhary succeeded in winning the bronze.

Similarly, under the 62-kg men category, Nepal Police’s Bikas Thapa bagged the gold medal while Jivan Tamang of Nepal Army the silver medal and Dhana Bahadur Jhankri from western development region the bronze medal, informed Tilak Bahadur Raut, central secretary of Weightlifting Association.

Under the 45-kg women category, Nepal Army’s Manisha Ranabhat won the gold medal, while Manish Chaudhary from the eastern development region the silver medal and the Kanchan Chaudhary from the far western development region the bronze medal.

A total of 123 players have been competing in the game taking place at a covered hall of the District Sports Development Committee. The competition is for 15 gold medals for different 15 weight groups including seven women’s, added Raut.

Minister for Youth and Sports Daljit Shreepaili inaugurated the competition.
