Opposition party boycotts meeting
Although the Province Assembly meeting approved proposal on the place for provincial capital and naming of the province with a two-thirds majority, the major opposition party-Nepali Congress (NC) and Rastriya Janata Party (RJP) boycotted the meeting, expressing their disagreement with the location of the capital city and the province name.
As soon as the meeting started, the NC members stood from their respective places in a gesture of protest.
Speaker Thapa allotted time for the disagreeing members where RJP’s Malamati Kumari Rana Tharu claimed that the process of the team formed for furnishing suggestions for the location of capital city and name of the Province 7 was incomplete and illegal.
Rana Tharu argued that the RJP was not included in the team which she termed as disrespect to the party. The members from NC and RJP walked out of the meeting hall, stating that they would boycott the meeting of province assembly until the representation of their parties in the team.
Earlier in the first meeting of Province Assembly, NC members had chanted slogans standing at the rostrum and disrupted the meeting.
