The Tulsi Lal Amatya Memorial Foundation and Pushpalal Shrestha Memorial Foundation jointly organized a one-day international conference to dwell on ‘One Belt, One Road (OBOR)’ here today.
OBOR is an initiative undertaken by Chinese President Xi Jinping. It is China’s foreign policy and economic strategy to revive the Maritime Silk Route for economic outreach to China’s partners.
More than 20 representatives from Nepal, India, China, Bangladesh and Pakistan are taking part in the conference themed ‘OBOR for the development of South Asian region’.
Inaugurating the conference, CPN (UML) senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal argued that the development in South Asian region could be ensured through peace and political stability.
He was of the confidence that the conference would be useful in sharing the experiences among the participants about the issues facing people in this region and the efforts for development in the region.
Prof from Sichuan University in China, Wang Zhou shared that China had set up a Study Centre to materialize the efforts of China for economic development in the South Asia region by interlinking China with the countries in this region.
Similarly, Prof from Jammu Kashmir in India, Raju Sindhu, called for unity among the people in the South Asia region for economic development of people in Jammu-Kashmir reeling under the acute poverty.
