Dhurmus and Suntali’s New Year gift to Musahars

A total of 50 houses built at Bardibas of Mahottari district under the Integrated Model Musahar Settlement (IMMS) project of the Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation were handed over to the Musahar families in the locality today, coinciding with the Nepali New Year 2074.
Comedian duo, popularly known as ‘MaHa Jodi’, Madan Krishna Shrestha and Haribansha Acharya, handed over the key of the main door of the settlement to the IMMS Management Committee Chair Biltu Sada Musahar.
The 50 million-settlement having 50 independent two-storey houses, one community building, two public toilets, view tower, a children’s park and a temple was handed over in presence of the parents of Sitaram Kattel, popularly known as Dhurmus and Kunjana Ghimire of Suntali fame.
The ‘Maha Jodi’ on January 9 this year had laid the foundation stone for the settlement.
The settlement consists of additional three houses for three families living in the Musahar settlement since earlier, shared Arjun Neupane, project manager of the Foundation.
Neupane further said the settlement was built with the financial support from the Nepalis abroad.
Lauding the humanitarian work of Foundation, Chief Secretary Subedi pledged to collaborate with the Foundation to help increase Musahar communities’ access to education, health and other opportunities.
Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) Vice-Chancellor Dr Jeevraj Pokharel also reaffirmed his commitment to launch livelihood programme for the Musahars in the locality for their economic advancement.
Comedian duo Shrestha and Acharya commented that with the construction of Musahar settlement, Dhurmus and Suntali had proved that with sheer determination, we could achieve anything. RSS
